Conference “Sailing Uncharted Seas: Recent Advances in Pottery Studies in the Near East and Eastern Africa during the Late Antique and Early Medieval Periods”
On behalf of the organizers, we cordially invite you to the conference “Sailing Uncharted Seas: Recent Advances in Pottery Studies in the Near East and Eastern Africa during the Late Antique and Early Medieval Periods,” which will take place on June 23–25, 2026, at the University of Warsaw, located at 26/28 Krakowskie Przedmieście Street.
The event is dedicated to the study of pottery from the Late Antique and Early Medieval periods across a vast expanse of still-uncharted seas, encompassing the Levant, the Red Sea and Persian Gulf regions, and East Africa. The broad geographic scope of the accepted abstracts clearly indicates how many unexplored areas remain in the field of ceramic studies, as well as previously unknown interregional connections.
The conference is co-organized by the Faculty of Archaeology at the University of Warsaw (WA UW) and the Center for Mediterranean Archaeology at the University of Warsaw (CAŚ UW)
