Workshop “ERC digital epigraphy” at the new DIGITAL LAB
You are cordially invited to the ERC digital epigraphy workshop.
The first meeting entitled ‘Digitalisation and Protection of the Rock Inscriptions from Villastar‘ will be led by Gabriela de Tord Basterra (Universidad de Zaragoza / Universidad de Barcelona).
The workshop will take place on 19 April 2024 at 16.45-18.15 in the new room at the Department of History, DIGITAL LAB, part B of the building, level -1.
Participation requires registration. Admission to the workshop (10 places) is on a first-come, first-served basis.
The room, whose equipment was funded by the IDUB grant: “New Directions”, features state-of-the-art computers with professional software that will enable professional teaching of digital humanities at the University of Warsaw. The equipment will allow students to carry out ambitious individual projects in digital humanities.

“Digitalisation and Protection of the Rock Inscriptions from Villastar”
Through this enlightening case study, students will gain a practical introduction to the digitalization and preservation efforts surrounding the rock inscriptions of Villastar. In the rugged terrain of Villastar, nestled within the province of Teruel, Spain, lies a treasure trove of historical significance – the rock inscriptions of Villastar. These inscriptions, dating back to the Bronze Age, provide a window into the ancient civilizations that once roamed these lands.
To safeguard the legacy of the rock inscriptions from Villastar, a comprehensive digitalization initiative has been undertaken. This endeavor involves the use of advanced imaging technologies such as photogrammetry and laser scanning to create highly accurate digital replicas of the inscriptions. Through meticulous digitization, every detail of the inscriptions is captured, preserving them for future generations in a digital format. This democratization of access facilitates greater exploration and understanding of the inscriptions’ cultural, historical, and linguistic significance
