Katinka Sewing – Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellow at the Faculty of History

We are pleased to welcome Dr. Katinka Sewing as a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellow (2025/26) at the Centre at the Faculty of History. Her project, The Missing Piece: Euphratesia as a Hub of Sacred Architecture within the Cultural Landscape of Late Antique Northern Syria (EASy), investigates the architectural, liturgical, and socio-religious development of Christian church buildings in the border province of Euphratesia (modern Syria and Turkey). Drawing on extensive field experience, particularly at the late antique Bishop’s Church in Doliche, Dr. Sewing will conduct the first comprehensive study of church architecture in the region and reevaluate its role in the broader context of Late Antique sacred topography.

This fellowship builds on her earlier collaboration with CRAC and Professor Robert Wiśniewski during her 4EU+ Visiting Professorship in 2024. It will further strengthen interdisciplinary exchange across archaeology, epigraphy, liturgical studies, and late antique history. Anchoring the project within the broader academic dialogue, Dr. Sewing is co-organizing a workshop on Liturgy, Architecture, and Experience in the Late Antique East with Professor Tomasz Waliszewski, which will take place in June 2026.

Welcome back to Warsaw, Katinka!
