Let us meet

Dear Colleagues and Friends, CRAC has been active for over a year, but has not yet had a proper launch. We are delighted, therefore, to finally be able to hold one. So please join us for CRAC drinks on 28th October (Thursday) at 6.30 p.m. in the Columned Hall at the Faculty of History.

The Centre of Research on Ancient Civilizations was established in June, 2020. Its beginnings were not accompanied by much fanfare because of the virus, which did not allow us to begin our activities as grandly as is usually the case with such initiatives.

During the course of the past year, the Centre has been very busy launching programmes supporting the works of researchers in the field of ancient studies: for example, the CRAC Small Grants, programme for the purchase of books or support for international guests. Moreover, we are now proceeding to the second call for candidates for postdoctoral positions, and the one person who was chosen last year will start her scholarship on 1st November. For over a year, we have also been busy informing you about current issues relating to ancient studies via the Newsletter, and Facebook and webpages.

These are sufficient reasons to celebrate the Centre which has ambitious plans to integrate scholars working in the field of ancient studies at UW and beyond.

We hope that you will take part in the event, which actually aims at celebrating the successes of the whole community of people involved in ancient studies. Let us meet all with a glass of wine. Students are warmly welcome.
