8th International Congress on Black Sea Antiquities
From 14 to 18 September 2026, the University of Warsaw will host the 8th International Congress on Black Sea Antiquities – one of the most important international academic events dedicated to the archaeology and history of the Black Sea region. This year’s edition of the congress is dedicated to the memory of Gocha R. Tsetskhladze, an eminent scholar and one of the initiators of the series.
The congress will bring together over 100 researchers representing more than 20 leading academic centres from Europe and other parts of the world. The proceedings will centre on the theme: ‘General Trends and Local Traditions in the Black Sea Area (7th century BC – 5th/6th century AD)’.

The conference is co-organised by: the Faculty of Archaeology at the University of Warsaw, the Kazimierz Michałowski Centre for Mediterranean Archaeology at the University of Warsaw, the Centre for Research on the Antiquity of South-Eastern Europe at the University of Warsaw, and the National Museum in Warsaw
