Seven UW projects within the field of ancient studies awarded NCN grants

Seven projects in the field of ancient studies from the University of Warsaw have been awarded with NCN grants: 

“Polonez Bis” – William Graham Claytor Egyptian Peasants under Roman Rule: The Archive of Harthotes and Karel Innemée Costumes of Authority. The Image of Royalty and Clergy in Christian Nubia

“Sonata 17” – Mariusz Gwiazda Cultural, demographic and biological profiles of the post-Roman (4th-6th century AD) and Emilia Smagur History read from coins: the use and value of coins in ancient ports of the western Indian Ocean from PCMA

“Opus 22” – Francisco J. Núñez Calvo Pottery production in Tyre from the Bronze Age to Late Antiquity: diachronic and technological definition of traditional economic activities and dr Micaela Sinibaldi  Frankish settlement in the Principality of Transjordan. Society, economy and landscape during the Crusades and Mariusz Burdajewicz In the shadow of Amman: the city and its hinterland/periphery in central Transjordan from a longue durée perspective, from the Iron Age to the Middle Islamic period.

The Polonez projects will be based at the Faculty of Archaeology and so will be the Opus of Mariusz Burdajewicz. All other grants will go to the Polish Centre of Mediterranean Archaeology.
